CZ.NIC logoThe CZ.NIC Association, the registry for .CZ domain names, has announced there are now more than 700,000 .CZ domain names registered. The 700,000th .CZ domain name was registered on 4 August and it took ten months to register the last 100,000 domain names.

.CZ domain name registrations continue to grow strongly with an average of 10,000 domains being registered each month. Some other interesting statistics on .CZ domain name registrants are that men have registered 87 per cent of all .CZ domains, but the balance between business and individuals is much more even with business and legal entities having registered 52 per cent of all domains. The most common length of a .CZ domain name is eight characters.

“From the beginning of 2006 until the migration to FRED, the new registration system, in October 2007, the monthly number of domains registered was around 5,000. Since October 2007, this number has practically doubled. We do not expect this trend, which has lasted for almost three years, to change in the coming months,” said Ondřej Filip, CEO of the CZ.NIC Association.

The CZ.NIC Association have also said that since the 600,000th registration, the number of domains secured using the DNSSEC technology has also increased significantly. Primarily thanks to the initiative of the two large registrars in introducing this measure, more than 100,000 domains are now protected against DNS attacks, which most often aim to falsify the contents of a website or steal sensitive user data for various online services.
