8 Million .UK Domain Name Registration Milestone Reached
The eight-millionth .UK domain name registration milestone was reached in November Nominet has announced.
The last million .UK domains were registered in 15 months with the seven-millionth domain having been registered in August 2008.
.UK is the third largest country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) following .DE (Germany) with 13,310,100 (as of 6 December) registrations and .CN (China) with 12,545,600 (as of 31 July) out of a total of 184 million domain names registered (as of 30 June), according to Verisign’s 2009 Domain Name Industry Brief.
Including generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs), .COM has the highest number of registrations, which when combined with .NET registrations, totalled 93.5 million registrations. Then comes .DE, .CN and .NET, .ORG, .UK, .INFO, .NL (Netherlands), .EU (European Union) and .BIZ.
